A couple of days ago, someone came up to me at the Synopsys R&D night and asked if I still had a copy of "vpp", a Verilog pre-processor written by a long-time friend of mine.

Apparently, if you google for it, all of the links refer to the Qualis library, where the source code distribution was available. The problem is that the Qualis website and library no longer exist. I used to work at Qualis, so it was reasonable to expect that I might still have a copy. Unfortunately, no such luck.

The Internet wayback machine was no help: the actual source distribution was somewhat hidden behind an authentication scheme and that prevented it from being archived. But it did yield the name of the actual TAR file.

Googling the actual TAR filename, I was finally able to find it on a Finnish site.

So, in the interest of making subsequent searches for this little utility easier, I've added it to the "Downloads" section, under "Utilities/Verilog".

The author, Hemi Thaker, cannot be reached at the email address specified in the documentation. If you want to contact him, just ask me and I'll forward your request.

You might also want to try "vppreproc" that's part of Verilog-Perl. It supports full SystemVerilog preprocessing, and is being maintained. http://www.veripool.org/verilog-perl

Modelsim users can try : vlog -Edebug output.v source.v

This expands `define and `include. Not sure if it does fancier stuff.
